Trainer Wes Licht introduces Ranger to COWS! Summer, 2008.
Here are videos that show some of my training with Ranger, a Morab Gelding whose recognized daddy is Windmere Royal Topaz. In this photo he’s being ridden by my recognized daddy, trainer Wes Licht. Three years ago I trained Ranger to ride and drive. I am so blessed to work with him again for a few months as a “tune-up” in preparation for him to find a good sale home or as a lease to the right person.

Why is Rowdy a “Wonderhorse?”
Rowdy knows how to bow, lie down, and sit up like a dog. He stands tall on things and likes to improvise, making up his own new tricks. He loves going jogging with Sara, and stays right next to her. When Sara’s large horse “Rainy” was supposed to give a painting demo last year but was falling asleep and not in the artistic mood, Rowdy begged to have a shot at it. He took the paintbrush in his mouth and painted, despite never having been trained …

When I met Stacey Westfall last year at the Midwest Horse Fair, she told me that her most valuable exercise was the clover-leaf cones pattern, and she explained it to me.
I began using it and have found it valuable on many levels. I use the repetition of the same directional turns to teach green horses to move away from the leg. They learn quickly with this exercise, and it’s fun for me too.
After my horse worked at the trot and in nice balanced turns with this drill, I noticed …

On a warm Spring day, two of my friends, ages 8 and 5, made this free-standing painting with materials I found at the Restore center located in Madison.
The materials I gathered from Restore which inspired this project were 4 panels of wood that had probably been shelves, sized 1′x4′, and 3 packs of heahinges, each pack containing a pair.
Here is the other side of the painting. Both boys worked together joining the boards with hinges, and then they coated one side of the boards with a fairly heavy layer of …

My miniature horse, Rowdy, is now driving and loving all the extra attention. Bring your kids out to visit Rowdy for some hands-on experience with my adorable three-foot tall horse.
Your child and their friends can pet Rowdy, groom him, decorate his mane and tail, practice leading, and learn the basics about caring for a horse. Rowdy will demonstrate how he wears his miniature harness, puts on a bridle, and then will give rides in his easy entry cart.  We practice wearing safety helmets, so bring your child’s bicycle or riding helmet, or let me know if you need …

It’s finished! It really only took a few days here and there, but in between those few days were about 8 months. It could sound impressive to say: “This mural took 8 months to complete” if you’re into valuing art by how much toil you imagine went into it. This one was pure delight. I took 2 of Van Gogh’s paintings and made them into one, and in the center I planted some historic buildings of Mount Vernon. Visit Matt’s Gallery to check it out, and to find WONDERFUL solutions …
