Horse trainer Sara Licht grew up with horses and has continued her passion by studying and practicing in areas of dressage, colt starting, driving, and trick training. She enjoys sharing with people what she has learned so they can take it to the next step. Belgians, Halflingers, Mules, Trakehners, Quarter Horses, Miniatures, P.O.A.s, Arabians, Morgans and Morabs are some of the breeds she has worked with, training them to ride or drive.
Her own horses are a Miniature horse named Rowdy, and a Morab mare named Rainy. Rowdy is very handsome pulling his miniature cart and loves to eat dandelions. He also knows how to lie down, sit up like a dog, and stand on things (“look how big I am!”) for treats.
Rainy is from a Malikatoa mare, sired by Palimino Windmere Royal Topaz. She rides, drives, and gives careful longe lessons to small children. Rainy also likes to do a few tricks including picking things up and handing them to Sara, and making paintings on an easel by holding the paintbrush in her mouth.
Sara’s other passion is for making art. She paints large and small scale, and makes various art objects out of ceramic, paper mache, or fabric. Much of her work can currently be seen at Absolutely Art on Atwood Avenue in Madison. When there are children around, Sara often asks if anyone wants to make a painting or engages them in some other type of artistic expression.
Sara paints select murals and concentrates much of her art production in the winter months, although she can’t resist doing some painting during horse training season as well. To see photos of Sara’s murals, look in the right-hand column at www.saralicht111.blogspot.com
